Records of the Iowa Library Association, 1890-1996.

The records of the Iowa Library Association (ILA) document the organization's evolution from a small group that promoted library service and the building of community libraries to an association concerned with issues ranging from censorship and academic freedom to open access and inter-library cooperation. Committee reports, annual reports, and executive board minutes combined with conferences, district meetings, and treasurer's reports contribute to the overall organizational picture. Some of the better documented committees and activities are the Association of College and Research Libraries, the Centennial Library History Project, the Intellectual Freedom Committee, Special Libraries Roundtables, and the Governmental Affairs Committee. Copies of the publication the Catalyst are also included. Correspondence and photographs are found throughout the collection. The 1996 Addendum contains ten boxes of photographs. The various correspondence files include letters fromL: Paul Cunningham, H.R. Gross, Leo A. Hoegh, Bourke B. Hickenlooper, Ben Jensen, W. Earl Hall, Kenneth MacDonald, Thomas E. Martin, Fred Schwengel, and William Waymack.
